Peneteniary Heidering - Berlin

With a capacity for 648 minimum- and medium-security inmates, the new Heidering prison had three key considerations that shaped the design concept for the prison: compact buildings, short connecting routes and a short security perimeter. Creation of the spatial conditions make for a secure, humane prison regime and optimum working conditions. The complex has three X-shaped facilities and also includes a area of buildings that serve as work facilities. The establishment of distinct, high quality open areas for periods of exercise and recreation, have led to a roofed glass walkway connecting all parts of the prison. The facility began accepting prisoners in April 2013.

Stadelheim Prison - Munich

Stadelheim Prison is a prison in Munich's Giesing district. It is one of the largest prisons in Germany. The prison was founded in 1894. It was the site of many executions, particularly by fallbeil (guillotine) during the Nazi period. Adolf Hitler was imprisoned in Stadelheim from June 24th to July 27th, 1922. It sits on 14 hectares and has a capacity of about 1,500 prisoners (with a possible maximum 2,100). On November 9, 1993, it held its highest number of prisoners at 1,969. At least 1,035, including Ernst Röhm and the members of the White Rose resistance movement, were executed between 1933 and 1945. Only 14 executions had ever occurred before then.
