~ The Phillip Island Penguin Parade, where the tiny Fairy Penguins return each evening from a day of fishing to feed their young dinner on the beach

~ An optional excursion to take a steam-powered train to Menzies Creek in the Dandenong Ranges rainforest, with views of native parrots and cockatoos; wine-tasting at two local wineries, along with lunch ($165 pp)

~ Tour of Hobart, capital of Tasmania, including the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, a haven for injured and orphaned wildlife, such as tawny frogmouths, golden possums, bettongs, sugar gliders and Tasmanian Devil

~ Port Arthur, Tasmania's first and most brutal of the penal colonies, and one of the best preserved historical prison sites that depicts the best example of large-scale convict transport by the British empire during the 18th and 19th centuries
